LastObject and Better Objects: the same mission, two names
If you have been following LastObject for a while, you may have noticed a new name appearing: Better Objects. Here is the short version of what that means.
Better Objects is the parent brand — the Copenhagen design studio behind LastObject and the products under it. LastObject remains the product name you know: LastSwab, LastRound, LastTissue, LastPad. Better Objects is the brand that makes them and the name under which we will launch future products.
The mission has not changed. We design reusable alternatives to single-use everyday objects. Fewer things, better made. We started with the bathroom. We are not stopping there.
Why a new name
LastObject made sense as a product-level brand when we had one product. As the range expanded, we needed a parent brand that could hold the range — that communicated the underlying design philosophy rather than just the product category.
Better Objects says the thing we have always believed: that the everyday objects people use without thinking deserve better design. Not premium design. Better design. Design that considers the full lifecycle of the object. Design that makes reuse feel natural rather than effortful.
The story behind that decision — why we redesigned single-use objects in the first place and what led to the Better Objects name — is told properly in the founding story on the Better Objects website.
What changes, what does not
For existing LastObject customers: nothing changes. Your products are the same. The company is the same. The people are the same. We are still based in Copenhagen. We still manufacture to the same standards.
What has changed is that we now have a home for the wider brand thinking — the design writing, the sustainability research, the product guides — that did not fit neatly on a product commerce site.
The Better Objects website is where that lives. It has in-depth guides on how to use and care for our products, honest comparisons between our products and conventional alternatives, and the design thinking behind every object we make.
Reading worth your time
If you are interested in the design side of what we do, the Better Objects blog has pieces we are genuinely proud of:
- The anatomy of a better object — how we designed every detail of LastSwab, from tip texture to case click
- What Copenhagen design means to us — the Scandinavian design tradition and how it shapes our work
- How long does LastSwab actually last — real durability data and when to replace it
- The complete guide to reusable bathroom products — everything in one place for people new to the range
What comes next
We are working on new products. We are not ready to say what they are. What we can say is that the brief is the same as it has always been: find a single-use everyday object that has never been properly designed for reuse, and design it properly.
The story of how LastSwab went from a kitchen prototype to a Kickstarter-funded product is a good indicator of how we work and what patience that process requires.
Follow Better Objects if you want to see what comes next. The thinking will appear there first.
